A summer that has brought us Jurassic World (quite possibly one of the worst films I’ve ever seen) is also bringing us Sorry To Bother You, an absurdist sci-fi comedy that has critics making all the heart eye emojis. In his directorial debut, rapper Boots Riley crafts a colorful, satirical tale about a down-on-his-luck dude trying to make some cash and suddenly hitting it big when he discovers his “white voice.” The film comes out this Friday, and on July 17 Boots Riley will be in conversation with Questlove at Film Society of Lincoln Center as part of their Film Comment series.
