Maybe it’s because we’re coming down from the 4th of July, but this week has felt particularly long, right? Give yourself a much-deserved break by catching a ferry to the Rockaways after work on Friday. You’ll be able to catch the first night of the weekend-long Rockaway Music Festival, now in its second year with tons of bands playing across venues like Ripper’s, Rockaway Brewing Company, Caracas, and more starting at 5pm. Most shows are free or super cheap, and I for one have always wanted to see what the beach out there is like when the sun goes down, haven’t you?
The full schedule for the whole weekend’s festivities is here, and be sure to check out the lineup at Riis Park on Saturday and Sunday. As an added bonus, (and if you can ditch work early enough), you can check out Narcissus Garden, a Yayoi Kusama installation of 1,500 mirrored steel orbs from the 60s that is now installed in an abandoned Fort Tilden train garage now through early September from noon to 6pm on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
