You’ve got lots of options to put some distance between you and your office this Friday evening, starting with a trip to Greenpoint to check out the Kingsland Wildflowers Green Roof and get a lesson in botanical drawing. From 4-7pm, you can get a guided tour of the one-of-a-kind rooftop wildflower meadow and create a beautiful piece of nature-inspired artwork with the help of artist Gabriel Willow. The cost is just a suggest $10 donation to NYC Audubon and the Kingsland Wildflowers Project, which covers your art supplies. Or, for a totally different kind of night, you can see actor, social activist, and Twitter personality George Takei speak at Caveat on the Lower East Side for $25 at 7pm, will proceeds benefiting the ACLU. Finally, try something totally new at (Le) Poisson Rouge, which is hosting Art Battle New York, a live competitive painting event that pits local artists against each other, with the winner decided by audience vote. The games begin at 7pm and tickets are just $15 if you buy them in advance.
