Ladies who brew, plus The Breeders and ‘Persepolis’

By

This week’s Beers With(out) Beards Festival celebrates women in the craft beer industry with a variety of events planned at venues throughout the city, but one of the most low-key, accessible of these affairs is Saturday’s four-hour ticketed tasting fest at The Well. From noon to 4pm, you can try beers from over 20 female brewers or female-owned breweries, including my personal favorite Grimm Ales, for the price of a $50 ticket. Once you sober up, you might want to hightail it to Prospect Park for the free Celebrate Brooklyn! concert that night featuring Speedy Ortiz and mid-90s alt-darlings The Breeders. Those seeking a little less action should consider the 4:40pm screening at BAMcinématek of Persepolis, a groundbreaking, Oscar-nominated film based on the graphic novel of the same name about a girl coming of age in Iran’s Islamic Revolution. Tickets are $15 for non-members.
