A discussion of #MeToo in the restaurant industry

By

After sexual harassment and assault allegations against Mario Batali and Ken Friedman came to light earlier this year, it seemed the time was finally right to discuss a topic that most foodie-obsessed New Yorkers would probably not think about: The pervasive issues of inclusion, diversity, and equality within the restaurant industry. On Monday night, Oct. 1, FERN Talks & Eats is gathering a handful of female food luminaries for a panel discussion about the #MeToo movement and its intersection with race, gender, class, and identity politics. Join bartender/activist Ashtin Berry, Dirt Candy chef Amanda Cohen, editor and critic Ruth Reichl, JaynesBeard founder Alana McMillan, and journalist and moderator Tracie McMillan for this timely and personal conversation about the current culture and ideas of how to change it at The Green Building at 6:30pm. Beforehand, starting at 5:30pm, there will be a reception with complimentary beer, wine, and cider, and light bites from the chefs of Untitled, Marta, North End Grill, and Union Square Cafe. Tickets are $40.
