Sunday in Brooklyn: Beat the chill with chili

By

Over my years contributing to this blog, I’ve written up a lot of the various food takedown events put together by Matt Timms, who has been inspiring home cooks to compete against each other for prizes and “best dish” bragging rights since 2003. There have been takedowns all over the country, dedicated to a delicious array of categories like meatballs, breakfast, bacon, ice cream, lobster, casseroles, soup, and tacos, but the original concept that started it all was the Brooklyn Chili Takedown, which is back and bigger than ever this Sunday evening. The event is in a new venue this year, the Murmrr Theatre in Prospect Heights, and at a mercifully later start time—5:30pm seems like a much better time to chow down on over 25 different types of chili than noon, doesn’t it? Tickets are $25, which lets you taste as many of the competition entries as you can handle, and are available here.
