Sunday in Brooklyn: Shop local holiday markets

By

A friend and I were recently discussing our mutual obsession with holiday markets over soup dumplings at Industry City before we went to the American Field market that was there a few weeks back to look for unique, crafty presents to give to our friends and families this year. We both conceded that it’s not the cheapest, most selfless, or most efficient way to tackle one’s Christmas list– on this particular day, I left with some CBD powder and homemade licorice that I definitely bought for myself (!), and she picked up a print for her brother and business cards from a few jewelers that she decided her husband should know about—but agreed that for some reason we still get irrationally excited when we hear about a new pop-up on the scene and will dedicate a large chunk of a weekend day to exploring it. Naturally, I immediately emailed her when I read about the So Holiday Shoppe Object Retail Marketplace that is taking over two floors of Industry City this weekend (Friday, 4-8pm; Sat. & Sun. 11am-7pm) with a curated selection of vendors from all over the world, and we’ve got plans to hit it up and possibly wander into the newly-opened Japan Village food hall. But for the true diehards, that’s far from the only game in town this weekend—there’s also the Holiday Oddities Flea Market at the Brooklyn Bazaar (Saturday and Sunday; noon-6pm) for all the people in your life who want taxidermy or medical history ephemera for Christmas, the Greenpointers Polar Vortex Holiday Market (Sunday only, 1-7 at the Greenpoint Loft), and the FAD Holiday Makers Market at the Brooklyn Historical Society (Sat. & Sun., 11am-6pm). Rest up, friends, and get ready for lots of letterpress, throw pillows, and candles.
