Relive your HS winter formal (plus a pregame wine festival)

By

Greenpoint bar The Springs has found a creative way to beat the mid-winter blahs—every Friday and Saturday night in February (plus Valentine’s Day), they are busting out the punch bowl (not to mention wine coolers and even Zima (!)), the crepe paper decorations, and the 80s and 90s dance hits in an attempt to recreate the fun and awkwardness of your classic high school dance experience. You are expected to wear formal, semi-formal, and vintage attire to the event, which is billed as the Enthusiastic Dad’s Winter Formal, and I imagine that a boutonniere or corsage will be smiled upon. For $65 you have access to an open bar, which you can thankfully enjoy legally this time around. If you’re looking for me, I’ll be at the DJ stand requesting “Every Rose Has Its Thorn.” If you wanna really make a night of it, you can pregame at the Brooklyn Wine Fest, which will have hundreds of wines from around the world available to taste from 6-9:30pm at the Expo Center.
