Every time I go to DeKalb Market Hall, I spend about half an hour wandering around the stalls trying to decide what to eat even though I ALWAYS end up getting the same thing, which is a cheeseburger from Hard Times Sundaes. Evident,ly I am powerless in the face of their deliciousness, and I’m interested in learning more about the Mill Basin native behind them, Andrew Zurica, who is giving an inspirational talk on Friday night at the new DeKalb Stage. His journey to successful restauranteur is pretty fascinating, involving a past life as an international drug trafficker. The event will begin at 7pm with a performance from comedian Alexis Guerreros, which will be followed by “From Street Kid to ‘Burgerpreneur” at 7:20pm. Your $45 ticket includes dinner from Zurica’s beloved burger joint, oysters courtesy of Fulton’s Landing Seafood Company, plus beer from Other Half, and 100% of the proceeds go to a great cause— the Kids for Kids Foundation for St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
