Soup for the soul: Sumo and stew at Brooklyn Brewery

By

As we forge ahead with what feels like the 100th month of winter, pretty much all I want to do is consume copious amounts of soup. Turns out that Brooklyn Brewery is on the same page. On Tuesday from 8 to 11 pm, the Williamsburg brewery is hosting the latest installment of a series called Sumo Stew, named after chankonabe, the hearty soup wrestlers make and eat before their bouts.

For $60, you’ll enjoy a big bowl of turkey, tofu and mushroom chankonabe, along with a bento box full of Japanese-inspired goodies from local hotspots like Mission Chinese Food and French Louie, plus dessert, beer and cocktails. Of course, they’ll be streaming sumo matches to enjoy while you eat. Plus, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Japan Society. Talk about soup for the soul.
