It’s Pride Month, y’all! The city is saving the big show, the Pride March, for June 30, but there’s plenty of celebrating to be done before then. Take this Wednesday, for instance. The New York City Opera is bringing its talents outdoors with Pride in the Park. From 6 to 7:30pm in Bryant Park, LGBTQ+ members of the renowned opera company will perform a selection of scenes and songs — including a sneak peek at the world premiere of a new opera called “Stonewall,” which commemorates the 50th anniversary of the historic uprising. Get there early to snag a picnic blanket, and feel free to come peckish. Beer, wine and food will be available for purchase.
And if you want to stay closer to home, Brooklyn Bridge Park is hosting the Metropolitan Opera’s summer recital series the same night, at 7pm, with artists performing arias and duets from various operas.
