Fireworks abound on Friday night

By

Hop the train to Coney Island on Friday night to cheer for our own Brooklyn Cyclones as they face their fiercest rivals, the dreaded Staten Island Yankees, on opening day at MCU Park. The game starts at 7pm, tickets start at just $14 apiece, and you should stick around after the game for the free fireworks show. On the other hand, you can see a gorgeous fireworks display without traveling to the southernmost edge of the borough by attending one of my favorite summer events: the New York Philharmonic concert in Prospect Park, which is free and starts at 8pm. Grab a picnic dinner and some solo cups for your verboten booze and ring in the weekend in style—with a soundtrack of Rossini and Rachmaninoff performed al fresco by a world-famous orchestra.
