Mac DeMarco and Ex Hex at the bandshell

By

As luck would have it, a fellow contributor cannot make Tuesday night’s benefit show at the Prospect Park Bandshell, and I get to see Mac DeMarco and Ex Hex instead. I’m looking forward to the highs and lows: Female rockers Ex Hex channel the energy of Pat Benetar and Joan Jett through their 80s-tinged rock, while singer-songwriter Mac Demarco’s stoner California guitarwork and playful lyrics will bring things down a notch. Tickets to this the last benefit concert of the BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival are $45 in advance, but there are plenty of free performances during this last week at the bandshell—a live, musical guest cover of the entirety of Marvin Gaye’s album What’s Going On looks equally appealing on Friday, and Kate recommends the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon screening on Saturday. Here’s to taking in one of the last outdoor concerts of summer one night this week in Prospect Park.
