Canoe the Gowanus Canal

By

While many consider the Gowanus Canal unfathomably filthy, there are some brave souls who canoe in it! The Gowanus Dredgers Canoe Club “promotes waterfront stewardship and is raising awareness of sewer overflow issues,” in part through their canoe tours. You can go on one such tour, presented by adult education group Renaissance Person, on Tuesday, August 13 at 7pm. Dredger Owen Foote, an architect and urban planner, will educate participants on the history of the Canal’s pollution, current efforts to clean it, and cool sites along the way. Tickets are $30, and you can expect to share your canoe with two other participants. In case of inclement weather, August 20 is already scheduled as the rain date.
