Dead blondes and white flight

By

Have a literary Wednesday evening at one of two beloved Brooklyn bookstores, where authors will present their brand-new works. Sady Doyle, author of Dead Blondes and Bad Mothers, will be in conversation with fellow writer Talia Lavin at Books Are Magic on August 14. Doyle’s book “takes readers on a tour of the female dark side, from the biblical Lilith to Dracula’s Lucy Westenra, from the T-Rex in Jurassic Park to the teen witches of The Craft,” exploring what we can learn from these monstrous images.

At Greenlight, Jess Row will present White Flights: Race, Fiction, and the American Imagination, in conversation with writer, college professor, and creator of Literaryswag, Yahdon Israel. Row’s book is “a meditation on whiteness in American fiction and culture,” linking white flight to the settings—physical or metaphysical—of stories by white writers. Both talks are at 7:30pm and are free.
