Red Hook Regatta and sunset opera

By

I’ve been out of town for the past four weekends in a row, and I’m not complaining but I’m also thinking that it might be nice to kick it reallllly local this weekend, i.e., if I can’t get there on a bike in less than 20, it’s not happening. So, for Saturday, I’m thinking about heading over to Red Hook from 1-5pm for the 5th Annual Red Hook Regatta, a boat race off of Valentino Pier involving 3D printed boats made by local students in collaboration with Pioneer Works, Red Hook Community Justice Center, and Red Hook Initiative. While I’m over there, I’m hoping to try Hoek, a new Roman-style pizza spot that my neighborhood bartender moonlights at that opened earlier this month next to Sunny’s Bar, and just to torture myself, I will probably swing by Red Hook Tavern to confirm that I can’t get a table there until sometime in the mid-2020s.

I will then haul my cookies up to Brooklyn Army Terminal for So&So’s free outdoor opera performance at sunset, backed by a symphony orchestra conducted by Hannah Schneider of the Oxford Philharmonic. The show starts at 7pm and you are encouraged to BYO blanket and/or chair.
