Dressed up dogs and a storytelling fest

By

Well it’s time for the cutest event of the year, as far as I’m concerned, and that is The Great PUPkin, Fort Greene Park’s beloved dog costume contest that is now in its 21st year. If seeing dozens of canine furballs dressed up in their Halloween finest is the kind of thing that gets you through the winter, don’t miss this event be sure your Instagram feed is primed and ready to go. This year’s esteemed judges include Larissa “Kat Lady” Humphrey, from The Muse Brooklyn; Jack Louth, pit bull enthusiast and General Manager of Olea; and Rachel Bowers, founder and president of Brooklyn Bark. The judging starts at 11:30am, and it’s free to attend. Later on, sign up to hear some great yarns at the Speak Up, Rise Up storytelling festival happening at Murmrr Theatre starting at 8pm. For the cost of a $20 ticket, you can be entertained by a diverse lineup of comedians, storytellers, and community partners who have all gone through a storytelling workshop at Story Collider. On this month’s slate are Ophira Eisenberg, Karen Chee, and Josh Gondelman, among many others.
