Angel Olsen at Brooklyn Steel

By

Angel Olsen’s MY WOMAN was a let-down for me after her first two LPs, Half Way Home and Burn Your Fire for No Witness. I’m still not sure why exactly, and I haven’t returned to the album since the initial several listens, but I thought I’d give her latest a try. It wasn’t until I got to the fourth song on All Mirrors, “New Love Cassette,” that I fully entered into the album; I’ve since listened to it over and over. The lyrics are literal yet poetic, and the music is luscious (thanks to a substantial string section), while also featuring a synth-y, drum machine sound on songs like “Too Easy.” Olsen is playing two nights at Brooklyn Steel, but Friday, November 22 is sold out. Tickets for Thursday, November 21 are still available and $35 in advance, $40 day of show (but don’t wait ‘til then to buy them!)
