Go for a hike without leaving home

By

For me, the day after Thanksgiving always involves a serious case of cabin fever and the strong desire to get outside and get moving. Sure, you can always head up north for a hike in Cold Spring or Bear Mountain, but you needn’t travel that far to get your fix of the great outdoors. The Greenbelt Nature Center in Staten Island is the site of an annual Day After Thanksgiving Hike that is now in its 16th year, and it takes place from 10am to 2pm. The hike is free, although you should rsvp here, and it’s led by Urban Park Rangers and Greenbelt Educators, so you might actually learn a thing or two. You actually don’t even need to leave the borough though:  Green-Wood Cemetery, home to the highest point in Brooklyn, also has a Post Turkey Day Tour happening from 1-3pm. Tickets are $15 per person, and it’s a nice way to break up the day before heading back home to chow down on leftovers and binge on TV.
