Your Summer of Learning

By

Being hyperactive New Yorkers, we can never know enough, do enough, or have enough skills. And this summer is a great time to pick up a new pastime like homebrewing or rekindle an old hobby—screenprinting, say—through one of the 200+ classes offered at 3rd Ward. Between weekend classes and 4-week-long intensives, you choose just how deeply you want to immerse yourself in a creative pursuit, from design to food to woodworking. It’s hard not to be inspired once you look at all the offerings, many of which have a range of instruction. The beginning jewelry designer, for instance, can take Intro to Silversmithing, then work up to Stone-Setting, Enameling, or Glass Fabrication.

There are also professional classes, like a Business Plan Workshop where you can craft your path to world dominance with the help of a venture capitalist and business strategist. Plus there are tons of classes that can help make you more well-rounded or just more awesome: 3D Makerbot Printing, Start Your Own Religion, Bike Maintenance and the always-popular Inflatable Sculpture.

None of these creative forays will set you back much. Classes like Handmade Skincare are as low as $35 or $25 for 3rd Ward members, while many of the month-long intensives hover around $295 or $245 for members. (Right now, in fact, sign up by June 30 and all the money you spend on membership this summer will be matched by 3rd Ward dollar-for-dollar, so you can keep your membership and class discounts alive well past summer.)

New sections and classes are constantly being added, so there’s always something exciting for you to take. But here’s a tip: when you see a class you like, enroll right away! Seats are known to fill up quickly.
