Endgame

Over the course of nine months, renegade playwright Ed Schmidt performed “My Last Play” 92 times in his Carroll Gardens apartment before his landlord issued him a cease and desist this summer. At each performance, in which he explains his epiphanic moment to leave his life in theater, he purges the most physical reminder of it—his 2,000-strong theater book collection, by doling out one book to each audience member. Now he’s taking his intimate show and the remaining 932 books to powerHouse Arena for five final performances, beginning tonight and ending Oct. 3. Tickets are $25, available here.
