The hipsters may just save Jesus. On any given Sunday, pastors in Brooklyn are attracting vibrant congregations to bars, arts venues, coffee shops and other makeshift churches–despite the fact that young Christians (excluding Catholics) are cutting religious ties in record numbers.

Indie churches are booming partly because they are embracing the LGBT community, and kissing the older generation’s conventions goodbye–including their judgmental reading of the Bible. In today’s BB, writer Emily Feldman visited churches at Trash Bar, Roulette, Postmark Cafe and Pete’s Candy Store–home of Revolution NYC led by Jay Bakker, son of Jim and Tammy Faye–to find out what these new Christians are preaching.
