A Tale of Two Families

By

I wasn’t aware that Thornton Wilder wrote a one-act, holiday play before “Our Town”–and frankly, given the number of holly, jolly movies and shows we’ve already mentioned in this week’s Tip Sheet, I am already feeling Christmas-themed fatigue. But Brave New World Repertory Theatre’s production of “The Long Christmas Dinner” sounds damn intriguing. Two casts, one black and one white, play three generations of the same American family sharing a 45-minute long Christmas meal that spans 90 years. True to Brave New World’s history of site-specific work, it will be performed in two Victorian homes–first in the living room of actress Chris Lindsay-Abaire (wife of the Pulitzer-prize winning playwright) in Ditmas Park on Friday night (tickets sold out fast for Saturday, and are barely left for Friday), and then on Sunday in that beautiful Bed-Stuy B&B, The Akwaaba Mansion. The production is so intimate, cookies and hot chocolate will be served.-N.D.
