Ten-player teams from all over Brooklyn competed in the preliminary round of the Battle of the Boroughs tennis challenge last Saturday in Prospect Park to see who would represent Brooklyn in the championship on June 15–and when the final ball had bounced, the spoils went to the home team from Prospect Park, who defeated a team from Fort Greene in the final round.

Prospect Park’s team will now compete against opponents from the other four borough (who have yet to be announced) in a citywide championship being held next Saturday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, Queens. Proceeds from the tournament support CityParks Tennis, which provides free tennis lessons and activities for children at 40 parks citywide.
