Get in touch with your inner scent and dump it into a cute little bottle. On Wednesday, herbalist, aromatherapist and perfumer extraordinaire Julianne Zaleta will lead a three-hour workshop at Brooklyn Craft Company, complete with two quarter-ounce vials of your creation to take home. Zaleta, who owns Herbal Alchemy Apothecary in Park Slope, will take students through the history and practice of natural perfumery, including a basic understanding of the sense of smell. Sign up for the evening class, which will cost you a worthy $135, here.

Escape the madness of holiday shopping and get in touch with your creative side at Brooklyn Craft Company’s DIY Gift Boot Camp this Saturday at its new space in Greenpoint we wrote about in September. Sign up for one or several classes designed to help you produce handmade, personalized presents for lucky friends and family members, including leather business card holders, terrariums, charm necklaces and glass etchings. Each class is $45 or $65 and includes all the materials necessary to complete your project, instruction by a qualified teacher, use of Brooklyn Craft Company’s free gift wrap bar, hot cocoa, music and a swag bag full of crafty treats. You can sign up for as many classes as you like—just be sure to register in advance so you are guaranteed a spot.
Brooklyn Craft Camp is expanding upon its popular, all-day DIY events by opening a brick-and-mortar crafting space in Greenpoint next month. Photo: BCC
These days Greenpoint seems to have everything going for it–a ton of record stores, new restaurants and pretty soon, Beacon’s Closet. Up until now though, resident crafters have had to trek on over to 3rd Ward in Bushwick, Brooklyn Kitchen in Williamsburg or Brooklyn Brainery in Prospect Heights to master their kitchen skills and perfect their needlepoint technique. That will all change next month when Brooklyn Craft Company opens in a 1,500-square-foot loft in the Pencil Factory (the building not the bar) on Franklin and Greenpoint. The peeps who brought us the all-day Brooklyn Craft Camp, are launching this permanent space, which will host classes on nights and weekends.
“We see Craft Camps as being like a tasting menu experience where you get to try lots of different things, and classes at the Brooklyn Craft Company space are more in-depth and focused,” says Brett Bara, founder and organizer.
