If every year you find yourself asking “Why?” after eating that fourth helping of turkey at Thanksgiving, we have no more answers for you than we have for ourselves. But if you’re interested in finding out more about the history of the holiday–everything from pilgrims to pumpkin pie–we suggest heading to The Brooklyn Kitchen on Monday, Nov. 18, for the November edition of Brooklyn Brainery’s monthly food lecture series, The Masters of Social Gastronomy. This month, its hosts Sarah Lohman of Four Pounds Flour and Jonathan Soma will be discussing the ins and outs of the annual tradition–including the more recent inclusions of culinary anomalies like the turducken and Tofurkey. Here’s a fun fact to get you in the mood for Monday’s discussion–this year marks the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln declaring Thanksgiving a national holiday. Brush up on your Turkey Day trivia and impress your in-laws on Nov. 28. The $5 admission cost comes with a beer and a 10% discount on cookware from The Brooklyn Kitchen.
