In addition to all the astrology podcasts that I’m loving these days, my two favorites are comedy podcasts: Yo, Is This Racist? and The Bechdel Cast. On Yo, Is This Racist?, the hosts Andrew Ti and Tawny Newsome go over the week in racism news and answer questions from three listeners, usually with a special guest. Sometimes bleak, always funny—really, any episode is a great place to start.
The Bechdel Cast, hosted by Caitlin Durante and Jamie Loftus, deals with the representation and depiction of women in movies. With the help of a special guest, they cover one film per episode, including a recap (spoilers are part of every episode), and an in-depth discussion of how women are portrayed and treated—both on-screen and behind-the-scenes. They recently got some great press in Vulture, which recommends the Black Panther episode. I’m partial to their episode on The Shining, which gets into Stanley Kubrick’s behind-the-camera, erm, shenanigans. I also appreciated their episode on Blade Runner, because I hate that movie and it was fun to hear them roast it.
