Folk Free-for-All

By

I already previewed the 10th annual Brooklyn Folk Festival, which happens this weekend at St. Ann’s Church, in our April culture roundup, but I wanted to draw special attention to this super cool, relatively under-the-radar event because it draws a uniquely diverse group of talented musicians that you’re unlikely to find performing together anywhere else. Saturday’s highlights include the first-ever Brooklyn fiddle contest at 3pm; a screening of “How They Got Over,” a documentary about the golden age of Black gospel quartets at 6pm; and a live set of blues, old time, and ragtime music from Jerron “Blindboy” Paxton at 9:30pm. The entire three-day schedule is here, and tickets for specific sessions are $25 each.
