Long before Sandy struck, we were planning a night of food, drinks, chef storytelling and foodie networking with Work It Brooklyn. Since then, we’ve retooled the evening to support a community in Brooklyn that is dear to us–Red Hook’s unique businesses, over 30 of which were badly damaged by Hurricane Sandy.
When you join us tonight, Tuesday, November 27 at Brooklyn Brewery, you’ll hear stories about kitchen mishaps and surviving Hurricane Sandy with Brooklyn chefs and authors including Allison Robicelli of Robicelli’s cupcakes fame, who ran a relief center out of her apartment that produced thousands of sandwiches for affected people, then started the Bay Ridge Cares Kitchen now run by Occupy Sandy; Leisah Swenson and Monica Byrne of home/made in Red Hook; Jami Attenberg, author of the new, acclaimed novel, The Middlesteins, who will be reading a juicy tale from a chef who dare not reveal him/herself; and Paulie Gee of Greenpoint pizza joint, Paulie Gee’s!
Afterward Work It Brooklyn will lead one of their signature speed networking sessions, this time for food professionals seeking work and new opportunities. You don’t have to be a food pro or network to have fun, though–we’ll also have food from Frites ‘n’ Meats, dosas from the ABCD’s of Cooking, beer floats from DreamScoops, poptarts from Anarchy in a Jar, and Micheladas from Annie Novak of Eagle St Rooftop Farm and Growing Chefs.
At the event you can also vie for amazing raffle prizes including:

Raffle and ticket sales will benefit ReStore Red Hook, which is helping businesses devastated by Hurricane Sandy (the majority of businesses on their site suffered damages of $50,000 or more, and they need help reaching their goal). Food vendors will also donate 10% of sales to ReStore Red Hook and Brooklyn Brewery will donate a beer token to each guest attending.
Tickets are $15 and include a free beer and one raffle ticket (you can purchase additional $3 raffle tickets at the event). You can also select “Donate More!” to support ReStore Red Hook even further.
