Farewell, Tree

CITYWIDE Give your Christmas tree the burial it deserves at the New York City Parks Department’s annual MulchFest. The citywide, weekend-long event allows conscientious New Yorkers to bring their Christmas trees, stripped of decoration, to one of 70 locations to have them turned into eco-friendly mulch. Brooklynites can drop their trees off at parks throughout the borough; at certain parks, including McCarren Park, Fort Greene Park, and Prospect Park at its Third Street entrance, you can even bring home some of your tree’s mulch for free. At Prospect Park, the Civic Council will also be distributing hot chocolate, cookies, and spicy cinnamon tea to MulchFest revelers.
