Plan Ahead: BBQ Blowout

By

There’s nothing like a good summer cookout, and next week’s event at Governors Island takes the concept to its highest level. Cook Out NYC, the featured event in July Good Beer Month, offers several takes on the cook-off and cookout themes. A number of Brooklyn food purveyors will be taking part in the barbecuing action, including Anna Wolf from My Friend’s Mustard, Sam Barbieri from Atlantic Avenue’s Waterfront Ale House, and King Phojanakong from Clinton Hill’s Umi Nom. Beyond the burger and hot dog cook-offs promised, Mama O’s Premium Kimchee is hosting a KIMCHIPALOOZA (caps theirs) with contests rewarding excellence in homemade kimchi, creative cooking with kimchi, and eating contests featuring daikon and super spicy kimchi. Contact them on their site to preregister for any of the contests to waive the on-site $5 registration fee. To save another five dollars, buy your tickets for Cook Out NYC before the day of the event.
