Dumpster Pool Party

By

Now that word is out about Long Island City’s The Palms, the new dumpster pool club operated by artists groups/creative party throwers The Danger, 3rd Ward, Artists Wanted, and Macro-Sea, this outdoor “ode” to the Boca Raton of yore will likely be jam packed through Labor Day. But if you do want to test the waters yourself, it’s best to come early–the pools got so crowded last Saturday, you had to wait in line as the day wore on. There’s outdoor dancing throughout the day, too, but it picks up as the sun goes down. And while the “staff” really gets into the theme–with matching shirts, hammocks, proper beach chairs, and striped, hotel-esque towels sold at the 3rd Ward Vaultshop–you’d do well to BYO towel, suit, water bottle, and something to amuse yourself between dipping and dancing, like a pack of cards. (Luke’s Lobster is on site to satisfy your lobster roll cravings.) This weekend, they’re throwing a funk and West African Hip-Hop-infused dance party Saturday with lots of poolside activities including Strip Bocce and Synchronized Swimming Lessons. Between noon and 7pm it’s $10 to get in, then $20 at the door till 4am. Find directions and more details on the site.
