You Can Get It If You Really Want (& It’s Free!)

Another awesome season of Celebrate Brooklyn! kicks off on Tuesday at the Prospect Park Bandshell with a free concert by reggae legend Jimmy Cliff. This year marks both the 50th anniversary of Jamaican independence and the 40th anniversary of The Harder They Come, the iconic movie for which Cliff wrote one of the best soundtracks there is, so expect the mood to be particularly celebratory. The show starts at 8, but as anyone who has attended a free Prospect Park show in the past knows, you need to get there early to ensure a spot inside. Of course, sitting outside the gates with some snacks and a surreptitious bottle of wine as “Many Rivers to Cross” wafts throughout the park wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world, so head on down no matter what. While we’ve got your attention, now is a great time to check out the rest of the 2012 lineup at the bandshell and fill in your calendar accordingly.
