Did you know that we are in the first annual NYC Sustainable Seafood Week? I had no idea until I saw a flyer the other day at Brooklyn Commune, which is a partner in the weeklong celebration of the efforts of local restaurants, fisheries and CSFs to provide responsibly-sourced seafood. Brooklyn Commune is one of my favorite off-the-beaten-path discoveries, with its ever-changing menu of amazing, healthy food and its laid-back space where you can almost always find room to set up your laptop and get some work done (sigh, why did I just tell you guys that?) It is also committed to sustainability, and serves as a pick-up location for several CSAs, as well as Village Fishmonger’s CSF. In connection with this week’s festivities, the restaurant is hosting a BYOB Sustainable Seafood Supper Club, and it sounds like an awesome way to forget all about GoogaMooga if you got shut out this year. The five-course dinner will be served family-style at communal tables and tickets are $60 per person. –K.H.
