There is a lamp in my closet that I’ve been holding on to for a year, just waiting to find the right person to re-wire it. I haven’t actually bothered looking for this person, because I’m too busy, but it doesn’t matter, because the fixers are finally coming to Brooklyn. Called Pop Up Repair, this crew of theater artists moonlights as repairmen and women because they would rather fix household goods than see them wind up in landfills. They have a residency now through March 30, Wednesdays through Sundays from noon-7pm, at another place dedicated to repurposing furniture and things from the stage and screen, Film Biz Recycling. Take everything from lamps, to cracked iPhones, to broken teddy bears and necklaces in need of restringing–they’ll fix it all, often in one to two days, at reasonable prices starting at $30.-N.D.
