The Flea Market That Makes Holiday Shopping Easy: Artists & Fleas

By

Add DJs, drinks, and an online pop-up shop to a flea market, and you transform a potentially overwhelming excursion into an experience that will satisfy even the most hesitant shoppers. That’s what Artists & Fleas offers–not just in their permanent Chelsea Market spot, their recently expanded Williamsburg location and a new L.A. outpost for any bicoastals out there, but in an online holiday pop-up that lets you shop from your couch or at least take a peek at the one-of-a-kind gifts you’ll find in person.

Below are five awesome presents you’ll find online, with links to the vendors who also appear at their physical markets. In Williamsburg, open every Saturday & Sunday (10am-7pm), they’ve made more room for 100 artists, designers and vintage collectors each weekend day. And at the Chelsea Market locale, you can check out 30 vendors each day (Mon-Sat, 10am-9pm, Sunday 10am-8pm). Both markets offer gift-wrapping stations and have two Shop & Groove events coming this Thursday at Chelsea from 6-9pm, and Saturday in Brooklyn from 5-7pm, featuring music, free beer and bubbly to sip as you shop their eclectic collections. Check out their Facebook page for more info.

Lemon Necklace: For us Northerners, the gift of citrus is a tradition dating back to the 1920s, when Floridians first started shipping oranges for holiday presents. But this necklace, made from a  real slice of preserved lemon encased in glitter resin, tops the best fruit basket any day. Designed by Greenpoint-based jewelry line,  Glitterlimes, they use fresh slices of real fruits in all their creations. Sweet! $40  (Visit Glitterlimes in person at the Artists & Fleas Chelsea Market location)

Vintage Pendleton Shirt This vintage plaid button-down plays it both ways, ensuring you stand out while fitting in, with a classic men’s shirt, sold by Champon Vintage, that you won’t find anywhere else. $95 (Visit Champon in person at the Williamsburg Artists & Fleas.)

Brooklyn Knuckle Tattoo Gloves: Your love for Brooklyn goes deep–but maybe not so deep that you want to permanently tattoo your beloved borough’s name on your fingers. Let these badass gloves, made by Father Panik Industries, convey your pride instead, and keep your hands warm, too. $32 (Find Father Panik in person at the Williamsburg Artists & Fleas.)

Vintage Book Clock: Your favorite bookworm knows how rewarding it is to read a great book, and this clock will remind them when it’s time to sit down with a new novel. Made by Love Hue Studios from vintage children’s titles, this is one book you’ll never put back on the shelf. $50 (Find Love Hue Studios in person at the Williamsburg Artists & Fleas.)

Biggie and Tupac Cufflink Set This cufflink set is like a rap battle that will never be won–on the one hand you have a sicka than your average poppa, on the other, the man who kept the city of Compton rockin. Inspired by the look of Shrinky Dinks, but made of much more lasting materials, these illustrated creations by Leroy’s Place will display your man’s love for both rap kings. $40 (Find Leroy’s Place in person at the Williamsburg Artists & Fleas.)
