Nothing says summer like the feeling of sand between your toes — or under your fingernails as you build an elaborate sand creation. See for yourself on Saturday at the 29th Annual Coney Island Sand Sculpting Competition. Registration for the yearly summer tradition opens at noon on the boardwalk at West 12th Street, with everyone from amateurs to experts welcome to compete. Go at it alone or bring a group; the sky’s the limit! Of course, if you consider sand sculpting more of a spectator sport, feel free to swing by and watch the artists at work. With music, entertainment and giveaways from noon to 4 pm, it’s sure to be a sand-tastic time.
