The good, the bad, and the blurry of gentrification

By

I finally listened to Brooklyn Based’s audio narrative on gentrification, which features interviews with Bed-Stuy residents and business owners, each with their own take on the matter. I was grateful to hear their perspectives, surprised at some of what they had to say, and left feeling that there’s so much more to talk about!

An eternal problem in major U.S. cities, gentrification is complicated. Brooklyn Historical Society promises a nuanced examination of it on Wednesday, January 15 at 6:30pm. Jarrett Murphy, executive editor of City Limits, will moderate a panel discussion that includes Manhattan Institute Fellow and author Kay Hymowitz; history professor and author James Rodriguez; and journalist and author Matthew Schuerman. General admission tickets are $15, and member tickets are $10.
