Free R&B and FAB Flicks

Every summer BAM extends its reach and presents free music outside of its Fort Greene confines at the R&B Festival at MetroTech. The two-hour shows start at noon, so take a long lunch and listen to bands like this week’s performers, Tank and The Bangas, winners of the 2017 NPR Tiny Desk Contest, who will show off their eclectic mix of rhythmic soul and spoken word (next week Preservation Hall Jazz Band will take the stage). And for the first time this year, BAM’s FAB Flicks series brings music films and documentaries to Putnam Triangle Plaza in Clinton Hill every Thursday night in July. 20 Feet from Stardom–about the back-up singers who helped make hits out of songs by The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder and David Bowie–screens this week at sundown.
