We Heart the PPW Bike Lane

By

Opponents of the Prospect Park West bike lane are so fierce, they seem like fictional characters in a future Batman film. Its arch enemy–a Brooklyn College dean, Louise Hainline–purchased a spy camera to record the true number of cyclists using it. And together with her fellow naysayers, including Chuck Schumer’s wife Iris Weinshall, they’ve hired the same law firm that represented George W. in Bush v. Gore in 2000. This Sunday, you can send a rebuttal to their innocuous-sounding group, Neighbors for Better Bike Lanes, during the community ride along the path organized by supporters such as Aaron Naparstek, founder of Streetsblog. Starting at 11 am, everyone is invited to bike or walk the lane starting from Grand Army Plaza to the Bartel-Pritchard entrance of Prospect Park at 15th Street. Free hot dogs from Bark, cupcakes from Blue Sky Bakery and more goodies from bike shop sponsors Bicycle Habitat and Ride Brooklyn await you at the end. More info at weridethelanes.com.
