We knew Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s anticipated Sakura Matsuri Cherry Blossom Festival was upon us this weekend, but we didn’t realize they claim the most diverse selection of cherry trees outside of Japan. (Take that D.C.!) As you ogle the puffballs of pink flowers, Japanese arts and culture will be on display through workshops, demos and performances. You can play Sudoku, hear pop bands like happyfunsmile, entertain the kiddos with hands-on workshops, see outrageous costumes and a live anime performance by Veronica Taylor (the voice of Pokeman), learn to make dashi from Momo Sushi Shack and create an origami crane to be sent with thousands of others to Japan as a gesture of support and unity. Admission is $15; kids under 12 get in free.
