Creole Meets Cuba

By

The Buena Vista Social Club isn’t the only awe-inspiring act to come out of Cuba. The Creole Choir of Cuba delivers equally impressive performances, and June 4 marks the U.S. debut of this Grammy-nominated group during BAM’s ¡Sí Cuba! Festival (download an mp3 of their soaring music here). The singers, all descendants of Haitian migrants, blend Afro-Caribbean percussion with a cappella arrangements of Haitian and Martinique merengues, mazurkas, and other styles, all sung in Creole. Ticket for this rare performance are on sale here.
