Get your opera fix in a nontraditional way at tonight’s inaugural Opera Moderne concert at Galapagos. The brand-new company opens its first season at the venue with Benjamin Britten’s Phaedra Op. 93, a cantata based on Racine’s Phèdre; Libby Larsen’s Songs from Letters, based on letters between Calamity Jane and her daughter; and George Crumb’s Ancient Voices of Children, which includes fragments of poems written by Federico García Lorca. It’s a welcome chance to hear opera in an unexpected venue far removed from the opera house.
