I could tout Red Hook all day long and, after one of my frequent trips to that haven of incredible views and New England-ness, I often do. If I didn’t have to be at a job every weekday morning in Midtown I would move there in a heartbeat, but until that Powerball ticket comes through I will have to settle for Saturdays spent whiling away the time on Van Brunt and its immediate environs. Luckily, 61 Local, a favorite Cobble Hill bar, has teed up a series of monthly bike rides to explore the sights, sounds, food, and drinks of Red Hook. Saturday is the second ride of the summer, and will stop for tours and tastings at Cacao Prieto and Red Hook Winery (the bike tour is free but the tastings cost $15). Sign up in advance for a spot in either the 11:15 or 11:45 tour, take a leisurely ride up the waterfront path, check out the Red Hook scene, and head on back to 61 Local for beers and lunch with your new cycling buddies. A perfect summer Saturday! – K.H.
