A Local Thanksgiving

By

I’ve been excited to head home for Thanksgiving for what feels like months now, but now that I’m hearing about 61 Local‘s Thanksgiving plans, I’m starting to wonder if I could just schlep my whole fam to Bergen Street for Thanksgiving instead. The spacious, yet somehow still totally cuddly, bar is hosting a Thanksgiving dinner along with BK Farmyards, a fantastic org that promotes urban farming right here in the borough. Expect some crazy delicious dishes made with local produce, including a kale pesto salad, thyme quinoa, and roasted root vegetables, as well as a homey communal vibe—BK Farmyards’ founder will be cooking, and 61’s owner Dave will be behind the bar, serving up all sorts of wine and beer (including brews from Barrier, who were hit hard by Sandy.) Dinner is just $20 and includes a drink from the bar; kids’ tix are also available and cost $10, and all proceeds from the food sales go to support BK Farmyards’ work. –C.A.
