Field Trip: Brunch with a Snake

By

The Year of the Snake begins on Sunday, which may not be the optimal time to get dim sum, but since  the big Chinese New Year parade in Flushing, Queens is slated for next weekend, it could be just right. My family is fond of Dong Yi Feng or “Good Kitchen Seafood Restaurant.” We’ve yet to wait once for a table (though we arrive between 10:30 and 11) and all they’ve got all the staples like Har Gow and Siu Mai plus some delicious pan-fried spinach and shrimp number I don’t know the name of. Oh, and it’s cheap–about $10 a head. If you want something more adventurous, you can be the first in to Biang!, which opens at 11. It’s much sleeker (and cleaner), and it’s one of the few places where you’ll get to try the addictive flavors of Western China–think cumin, Szechuan pepper, lamb. It’s so good it made our list of Best and Worst Brooklyn Eats.–N.D.
