Pickle Your Fancy

So you know those Brooklyn Brine Co. pickles that are sold all over the place and are totally delicious? Well, it turns out that the young, 100 percent Brooklyn-based company moved its factory from Greenpoint to Gowanus last spring and, in the process, added a welcoming storefront to the mix. I stumbled in a few weeks ago, got a grand tour of the operations from the very friendly founder, and walked away with a jar of pickled Meyer lemons that I plan to incorporate in just about everything I cook for the next several weeks. I also learned that the new space hosts Saturday pickling classes, where you can learn how to make traditional garlic and dill pickles. You get free reign to experiment with a variety of spices, bourbon, rye, and IPA to create your own weird pickle recipes. Each class is two hours and costs $40, and you will walk away with three jars of pickles and the confidence to create many more batches of salty, crunchy super snacks at home in the future. Email Brooklyn Brine to reserve a spot and get brining ASAP. –KH
