The last time I ate at Do or Dine, I was almost as impressed by the music as I was by the inventiveness of the menu (and that’s saying a lot when you consider that my pork chop was served alongside a duck fat-braised green apple topped with a melted horseradish marshmallow). The mid-to-late-’90s hip-hop playlist felt like a track-per-track replica of a mix tape I would have worn out in high school, and I even sent myself a text so I’d remember to download a few blasts from the past when I got home. No surprise, then, that the restaurant has scored Bed-Stuy’s own Ali Shaheed Muhammad (yes, that’s Shaheed of A Tribe Called Quest fame) to DJ its second annual Rub-A-Grub backyard party. DJ Amir Abdullah of Kon & Amir, a guy who knows more about party music than anyone, will spin a set too. The event will feature three rounds of food and cocktails that Do or Dine’s chefs are preparing especially for the occasion. Capacity is very limited and last year’s Rub-A-Grub sold out, so be sure to grab tickets now–$15 gets you entry and a $25 VIP pass includes two beers and two food items. —KH
