Swiss Chris has drummed for everyone from John Legend to Gloria Gaynor, Kanye West and Elton John, and this Sunday, he’s teaching a free drumming workshop for 9-17 year olds at Shapeshifter Lab in Gowanus. The lesson is part of Music is My First Language’s new program, The Journey of Rhythm: From Africa to NYC, which is aimed at exploring the musical movement of drumming from the West Coast of Africa to South America through the Big Easy (New Orleans) to Brooklyn and beyond. This is the first of many musical education programs, MMFL hopes to roll out citywide in an effort to augment the arts education of public school students. The organization will also be implementing public school sessions and offering scholarships for private lessons. There are only four tickets left for Sunday’s workshop. Grab yours here.
