A Beer Run and Soup Fest for your Saturday

By

Oh man, we are in that glorious sweet spot of Northeast weather where you can actually contemplate going for a run outside without losing half your body weight in sweat but also can spend several hours day drinking outside sans being encased in a head-to-toe parka. Take advantage of this tiny window we get every fall and head to Randall’s Island on Saturday for The Brew Hop 5K, which has the indisputable tagline “Because running is better with beer at the finish line.” Get your heart pumping with a quick (or in my case, seemingly interminable) run and then spend the rest of the day engaged in a much more enjoyable activity: Tasting beers from several local craft breweries like Brooklyn Brewery, Montauk Brewery, Ommegang, Sixpoint, and more. It will be a proper party, complete with music, lawn games, food trucks, and good vibes, and tickets are available here. For a less active afternoon, take a stroll down Smith Street between 1 and 4pm for the eighth annual Soup Fest, a tasting event to benefit the Culinary Art Program at the High School for International Studies. Local restos like Bar Tabac, Hanco’s, Stinky Brooklyn, Kittery, Fawkner and more will be ladling out specially made soups for you to taste and compare. Tickets will be sold on the corners of Bergen, Butler, and Union Streets and you get five tastings for just $7 and–if you’re extra hungry–12 for $15.
